So Jamaica will try its hand at oil production, but is this the wrong way in an age of climate consciousness?
Moving towards producing fossil fuels seems to be very disingenuous for a coastal country in the Caribbean who, at the same time, are calling out for larger countries to cut carbon emissions for the sake of the environment.
We know the oil boom in Guyana has every country in the region believing that oil can be their salvation to their economic woes, but at what cost will we explore for oil? Will it come to the expense of the coral reefs and marine life?
Would it also come at the expense of stronger hurricanes? What will be the overall cost of drilling for oil?
We cannot forget out pledge to the Paris Agreement in 2016. If we go back on that then no other larger country will be able to take us seriously.
