Public Sector “Right-Sizing” Bodes Well For The Economy

The government’s efforts to restructure and “right-size” the public service by filling job vacancies bodes well for the economy, says Caribbean Employment Services Inc. CEO Joseph Boll.

Caribbean Employment Services Inc. is a market-leading digital talent acquisition service that aims to connect the top talent from the Caribbean with hiring managers, HR professionals and decision-makers in companies both within the Caribbean as well as abroad. Further, it aims to provide the region’s jobseekers and those who are already employed with news and resources related to Caribbean labour.

Boll’s comments follow the newly elected government announcing that they would “not wait for pension reform” to begin addressing years of understaffing in the public service.

“This is great news for those looking to serve their country and start careers in the public sector, as well as for those who have already been serving as civil servants without the accompanying benefits,” he said. “Of course, we’re always delighted when Caribbean residents successfully land the job of their dreams, so we’re thrilled to see where this new undertaking leads.”

Indeed, with Grenada also just last month raising minimum wage for certain categories of workers, and now setting off to more closely engage the public service, economic prospects are on the upswing for many of the nation’s workers. Newly-elected Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell indicated that public sector hiring has already begun as he filled a vacancy for deputy permanent secretary in the Ministry of Finance since his government came into power in June.

“With more people working and getting the benefits due, and people also earning more, it’s bound to have a positive impact on the economy,” Boll added. “If people are able to spend more, and feel more financially secure so that they feel comfortable spending more, that no doubt has a ripple effect in the economy.

“We look forward to seeing the positive impact in Grenada and of course we remain available to assist jobseekers who are looking for their dream role, as well as employers looking to hire the best talent.”
