Hospitality businesses encouraged to recruit online to fill job vacancies

With tourism on a rapid rebound in the region, and several hotel partnerships on the table for Guyana in the near future, hospitality, food & beverage and other tourism-reliant businesses might find themselves scrambling to hire and retain enough employees to keep their operations running smoothly. But there is a way they can beat out competition in hiring the best talent as fast as possible: using digital recruitment resources and services to help streamline the process, saving them time and money.

One such service is Caribbean Employment Services Inc., a market-leading digital talent acquisition service that aims to connect the top talent from the Caribbean with hiring managers, HR professionals and decision-makers in companies both within the Caribbean as well as abroad. Further, it aims to provide the region’s jobseekers and those who are already employed with news and resources related to Caribbean labour.

“Our goal is to work with top employers to get them the best candidates possible for any given role or number of roles,” said Joseph Boll, Caribbean Employment Services Inc. CEO. “By taking the process online, you get the benefit of a much wider field of talent. At the same time, you also get to filter candidates so that you can narrow down interview options to the best of the best, and those with skillsets that match your needs.”

In many Caribbean countries, the status quo for hiring has usually been word-of-mouth referrals or mass job fairs. But Boll noted that while both of these options have been useful, they may no longer be the best way for businesses to get the most out of the modern labour market.

His comments also come as a prominent Guyanese tourism organization noted an “urgent need” for hospitality workers as the country gears up for a boom in tourism business. At the same time, that organization expressed challenges with hiring enough workers because of misconceptions about tourism jobs and high turnover rates as workers leave the hospitality industry to pursue jobs in other fields.

“Going through the old process, expending time and resources for a smaller pool of candidates just to end up with someone who isn’t the best fit is a waste for your business,” the CEO explained. “High turnover is also expensive, and means you have to start the whole process over again because, unfortunately, that person you hired was not the best fit at the time. Using services like Caribbean Employment helps to save you that kind of trouble.”

Boll added, “We’ve worked with clients ranging from local small businesses to government organizations to help them get the best match for their job openings. We’ve even had success with prominent overseas clients in the USA, Canada and UK, such as NHS Professionals, who were seeking to recruit Caribbean talent for unique work-abroad opportunities. There’s no doubt that our services are useful for businesses at all levels, and we would be happy to help Guyana’s hospitality businesses who might be looking to claim the top talent for themselves before their business rivals do.”
