LETTER: Grenada Carnival murder concerns

Dear Editor,

This letter is to address the criminal events that has shaken Grenada and it’s people to it’s core in the last few days, and to draw attention to this matter of  utmost concern .The murders of two American tourists aboard their yacht,

by three Grenadian escape prisoners on the Island of St . Vincent .

Prime Minister of Grenada, Dickon Mitchell and his government must take action to end it and to hold all those responsible for committing such murderous atrocities responsible and accountable.

In the last year murders and attempted murders have escalated to an alarming rate.

The inaction of the present government is indirectly legitimizing those criminals to commit heinous crimes. The Grenada police , the criminal justice system , must declare their full support and affiliations to the government and people. The government must pursue accountability for those responsible for their actions and find solutions to the present crisis .

It is particularly important that those in charge of leadership in the country must bring attention and mobilize political actions that will save lives. Silence on our path will only aid the criminals. As a Grenadian people, we all have a moral and ethical obligation to speak up when a crime occurs, we must feel compelled to voice our collective worries and anxieties of our people and country.

Over the past year, there has been a noticeable surge in criminal activities, ranging from burglaries, assault , thefts and vandalism. These criminal activities are instilling fear among the nationals and are disrupting the people’s safety and well – being.

It is disheartening to witness the deterioration of the once peaceful and secure environment we once cherished. Our neighborhood which was once known for it’s close – knit communities and harmonious living, now faces the constant threat of criminal elements and activities.

Speaking to Grenada former Prime Minister and present Leader of her Majesty People Opposition, Dr, the Hon . Keith C. Mitchell, and Jeffrey Prudhomme, the Leader of the Grenada United Political party, believe it is imperative for the authorities and Law Enforcement agencies to take immediate actions to curb these rising crime rates.

Implementing community based  crime and to bring the individuals responsible to justice. Prevention initiatives are essential steps towards restoring the security and peace all Grenadians deserve.

We must put pressure on the government and the authorities to take effective measures immediately.

Together, we can create a safer and secure environment for everyone residing in Grenada and for future generations.

We must stand united against crime and the criminals who commit such and  work together towards reclaiming the peace and security of our beloved country.

Not only government, but religious organizations, parents, and others who shape Grenada’s value.

We need to convey the message that violence and murders in all it’s forms must be stopped.

Chronic violence is today part of Grenada’s reality, but Grenadians should not accept the continuing high number of killings. When compared with the size of the population, a small number of people commit the most serious violent crimes, particularly murder.

Implementing community based crime and to hold and bring those individuals responsible to justice.

Prevention initiatives are essential steps towards restoring the security and peace of all Grenadians. We must put pressure on the government and the authorities to take effective measures immediately. Together we can create a safer and secure environment for everyone residing in Grenada and for future generations.

We must stand united against crime and work together towards reclaiming the peace of our beloved country, not only government, but religious organizations, parents and others who shape Grenada’s values, need to convey the message that violence and murders in all it’s forms must be stopped.
