EDITORIAL: We finally have a US president. We welcome President Joe Biden.

United States elections were held on November 3, however just this past Wednesday we have the certified winner in that of Joseph R. Biden and his running mate, Kamala Harris. Just about seven weeks has passed in the world’s foremost democracy and super power.

What took them so long? Well, underneath most of it was claims of voter fraud and corrupt election officials that the incumbent president at the time, Donald Trump, said took place. What’s weirder is that he was the one in charge of how the elections should have and could have taken place.

Now I know America is a big place. But surely president Trump had 4 years to fix the things he felt was wrong. How can you complain about a process you are in charge of? What a crazy world we live in.

In any event, this is an early Christmas present for Mr Biden and his fellow democrats. The democrats truly worked for four straight years to confuse Mr Trump and have him chasing his tail like a buffoon, instead of governing. Good trick by them to keep distracting him with visions of Hillary Clinton, knowing he would bite the bait all the time and bask in his victory over her rather than looking at the future. One thing I learned from sports is to never look at your shots, always focus on what to do to your opponent next after you made a shot or threw a punch. Trump did not do that and this is a real world example on how looking at your past work hurts.

All in all, we hope Mr Biden is kind to the Caribbean. His democratic predecessor, Barack Obama, was not overly kind to us but he did not inflict any significant damage. His rule was rather peaceful for us. The world was not plunged into world war, and we hope the same from Mr Biden. In fact, the world was not plunged into a world war with former president Trump either- in fact, Trump had less incursions into foreign soil than Obama did. Something the history books should remember.

In any event, welcome to Mr Biden and we wish him all the best!
