EDITORIAL: The sky is the limit for Caribbean young people

November 24, 2023

I am encouraged when I see the young people of our fair region gather together for wholesome dialogue and activity to strengthen our respective little rocks and cays in the sun. We can rest assured that the way forward is imprinted on their hearts by God Almighty, so we must be encouraged.

The only thing that disturbs me is that the older folks won’t stay out of the limelight of the young people. Not everything needs their intervention or even resources at times. Let the young people be to form their own minds and thought without the perversions and prejudices of their parents and grandparents. They can do it.

Other than that, todays under 40s are entering into a world vastly different from what our parents and grandparents dealt with in the 1980’s and earlier. They have seen the lies of warmongers and the state. They have seen how forceful the world and its leaders can be when we had to shut the world down due to the coronavirus. They also saw the extent to which people can lie about the origins of the coronavirus and to what extent people were willing to make a profit off of the pandemic, from the pharmaceutical companies making billions off of vaccines to the run of the mill public servant, skimming a bit off of the top of the unemployment benefits the state provided for those that fell on hard times to the extent that those who really needed it couldn’t get it because it was all gone.

They saw all of that and are still hopeful for their future, their endeavours and their life. That makes me encouraged.

May the peace of God be with our young people and may blessings and prosperity follow them. Amen and Amen.
