EDITORIAL: Does the Caribbean have the most writers per capita in the world?

The amount of writers, poets, authors and story tellers this editor has either interviewed or has received submissions from is phenomenal. Words can’t express how shocked I am at the intellectual talent that has come out of these island chains. (Africa sure missed out on a lot of talent when they sold this group of people to the slave traders.)

From Jamaica to Trinidad to the Bahamas, there are lots of bright and vibrant minds just bursting with talent. Let’s not forget the Caribbean people living abroad who have a story to tell too. Amazing!

Caribbean Magazine Plus will provide the platform for all artists, whether you are a poet, fiction story teller, painter, craftsman or musician. We will continue to develop this platform so you can have an outlet to showcase your talent. This is why this is here and we are unashamed in saying it and we are unashamed in showcasing anyone who has the courage to step forward and show us what they can do.

We have lots in store within CMP. We are working our inaugural Poetry Contest and it is coming along nicely. WE want to pick the submissions up a bit, but we feel as we get closer to the submission deadline of August 15 we will have a deluge of last minute entries- as in all things.

We also have coming up in September a short-story contest too. We are not sure how the short-story contest will look like, whether we will make it purely fiction or both fiction and non-fiction. We will decide coming close to August.

We also are organising a music showcase. Sort of like a Caribbean talent show and we are looking for partners- record labels, public relations people and music associations and of course, lots of sponsors. This one is going to be big. The virtual lane has opened up and it makes doing business and connecting people all the more easier.

Stay tuned to us and to the writers, keep your fingers banging on the keypad. We need you and appreciate you.
