CARIFTA 2023 set to be “best possible games ever.”

The upcoming CARIFTA Games 2023 will be held in Nassau, The Bahamas during April 7-10 and is welcoming the entire region to “get on board” for the “best possible games ever.”

Mike Sands, president of the North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletics Association, said at a press conference that the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the games are working to bring the “best possible games ever in the world,” to The Bahamas for the CARIFTA 2023.

Mr Sands also said: “The CARIFTA Games in general is the greatest youth athletics games in the world and so we will be celebrating our 50th anniversary and we welcome every citizen from around the Caribbean, around Central America, around North America, around the world to come and share with us.”

The 50th CARIFTA Games Local Organizing Committee (LOC), led by CEO, Lynden Maycock, has designed the events leading up to next year’s occasion to highlight, present and past athletes that have contributed to the development of the CARIFTA Games all-encompassing history.

Mr Maycock said: “The 50 CARIFTA Games is an opportunity for all of us to get on board. With the spirit of cooperation within our region, we welcome the small, medium sized enterprises.”

Drumeco Archer, president of the Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations, also said: “I was attending a track and field meet. And I was almost accosted by a young man who said: How are we getting the people ready for CARIFTA?”

Calling on corporate citizens to donate money to the CARIFTA Games so it can become successful, Mr Archer added: “If you work for anywhere in corporate Bahamas, send us a check, support the ambitions of this organization, and by extension, the CARIFTA games.”

The Games are in need of sponsors from around the region as this being the 50th Commemorative year for the games.

It has a rich history of developing young Caribbean athletes and preparing them for the next development in their athletic careers and in life. World renown track and field stars had their start at the CARIFTA, including Usain Bolt, Shanae Miller-Uiobo, Tonique Williams-Darling, Elaine Thompson-Herah and a host more.
