EDITORIAL: So many bad seeds in our leaders

October 10, 2025

We are turning the corner on this politician worship in the region. Gone are the days when political leaders can do anything they want and escape the consequences of their actions.

We are now faced with a sitting cabinet minister in Trinidad who was re-arrested for fraud related matters. In the old days, these types of allegations and charges would have been swept under the rug. But, not in these days. Things are too open and too many people are watching an involved and unafraid to challenge authority.

We are also faced with the Guyanese opposition leader who was indicted in the US and may now face extradition. Sure, he was going up against the sitting government with his indictment which made putting the clamp on him easier, but also it is also a sign that there is no need to cover for the political elite on any side.

This is a good step forward for the region. Caribbean citizens have been tired of corrupt political officials and it is about time we take these things seriously as they should.

While we wish the best for those who are facing trials and difficulties now, but at the same time we need to keep the integrity of our region to the highest standard.

Let us now work together to build healthier and stronger nations.
