The Vatican has selected a new Pope on this past Thursday after two days of cardinals and senior Vatican officials being locked in a conclave to select a successor to Pope Francis, who passed away on April 21. The conclave decided upon Robert Prevost of the United States who will now take the title of Pope Leo XIV.
We wish Pope Leo the best success in leading the Catholic Church. While the Catholic Church stands at the forefront of social change, and has had its fair share of scandals in the past, Pope Leo is coming into a time when the Church is not facing the disgusting child sex abuse scandals of the late 90s to mid-2010s. And it is not facing the type of pressure of dealing with an overt global war.
That does not mean to suggest that Pope Leo won’t have work to do. He will, from counselling major world powers and avert them away from larger conflict, to encouraging them to be more kinder to the poorer nations.
We wish Pope Leo all the best. May God go with him.
