A MORNING DEVOTION

November 5, 2026                                                    Year 6:Day 241

I will offer you the sacrifice of thanksgiving and call upon the Name of the Lord. I will fulfill my vows to the Lord in the presence of all His people.                                                                         Psalm 116:15-16

   CPWI   406          Be Thou My Guardian And My Guide

1 Be thou my guardian and my guide,

and hear me when I call;

let not my slippery footsteps slide,

and hold me lest I fall.

2. The world, the flesh, and Satan dwell

around the path I tread;

O save me from the snares of hell,

thou quickener of the dead.

3 And if I tempted am to sin,

and outward things are strong,

do thou, O Lord, keep watch within,

and save my soul from wrong.

4 Still let me ever watch and pray,

and feel that I am frail;

that if the tempter cross my way,

yet he may not prevail.

O Lord, answer us in the day of trouble,

Send us help from your holy place.

Show us the path of life,

For in your presence there is joy.

Let the heavens rejoice and the earth be glad;

May your glory endure for ever.

Your kingship has dominion over all

And with you is our redemption.

Lord God, almighty and everlasting Father, you have brought us in safety to this new day: We give you heartfelt thanks and praise.

Preserve us O Lord with your mighty power, that we may not fall into sin, nor be overcome by adversity; and in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose; through Jesus Christ our Lord.       Amen.

PSALM                         112:1 – 8

1 Praise the Lord!  Happy are those who fear the Lord,

who greatly delight in his commandments.

2 Their descendants will be mighty in the land;

the generation of the upright will be blessed.

3 Wealth and riches are in their houses,

and their righteousness endures for ever.

4 They rise in the darkness as a light for the upright;

they are gracious, merciful, and righteous.

5 It is well with those who deal generously and lend,

who conduct their affairs with justice.

6 For the righteous will never be moved;

they will be remembered for ever.

7 They are not afraid of evil tidings; their hearts are firm, secure in the Lord.

8 Their hearts are steady, they will not be afraid;

in the end they will look in triumph on their foes.

A READING:               Luke 22:24 – 30

24 A dispute also arose among the disciples as to which one of them was to be regarded as the greatest. 25 But he said to them, ‘The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those in authority over them are called benefactors. 26 But not so with you; rather the greatest among you must become like the youngest, and the leader like one who serves. 27 For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one at the table? But I am among you as one who serves.

28 ‘You are those who have stood by me in my trials; 29 and I confer on you, just as my Father has conferred on me, a kingdom, 30 so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and you will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

              The Word of the Lord.             Thanks be to GOD.

 [..it is only by your gift that your faithful people offer you true

and laudable service…

The conditions for laudable service are carefully laid out before the disciples, and it is humility in the service of others. There is no exception

for the Teacher and Lord, himself serves others. Then faithful service receives it rewards, in due course.  We pray that today’s disciples hear and understand…

Praise the Lord!  Happy are those who fear the Lord, who greatly delight in his commandments. Their descendants will be mighty in the land;

the generation of the upright will be blessed.]

The Lord be with you

V. Save your people, Lord, and bless your inheritance;

 COLLECT                   PROPER  26

Almighty and merciful God, it is only by your gift that your faithful people offer you true and laudable service: Grant that we may run without stumbling to obtain your heavenly promises; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.        Amen.

Into your hands, Heavenly Father, we commend ourselves this day. Let your presence be with us to its close. Strengthen us to remember that in whatever good work we do we are serving you. Give us a diligent and watchful spirit, that we may seek in everything to know your will, and knowing it, may gladly perform it, to the honour and glory of your Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord.      Amen.

                        And now, as our Saviour has taught us, let us pray

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come, your will be done,

on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins

as we forgive those who sin against us.

Lead us not into temptation

but deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power,

and the glory are yours now and for ever.      Amen.

            Yes Lord yes! To your will and to your way.

            Yes Lord yes! I will answer and obey

            When your spirit speaks to me,

            with my whole heart I’ll agree

            and my answer will be Yes Lord. Yes!

The Dismissal:

Glory to God whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine: Glory to him from generation to generation in the Church, and in Christ Jesus for ever and ever. Amen.   Ephesians 3:20,21

The Lord be with you

And also with you.

Let us bless the Lord.

Thanks be to God.
