January 16, 2026
My dear compatriots, sons and daughters of this sacred land of Haiti, and you, our valiant diaspora who proudly carry our flag to the four corners of the world,
On this first day of the year 2026, on this immortal day of our Independence, I extend to you my most sincere wishes for prosperity, peace, and renewed hope.
Today does not simply mark a celebration. It is a sacred moment of remembrance and awakening.
We honor the indomitable courage of our ancestors who, on this very soil, proclaimed to the entire world that human dignity is not negotiable. Our heroes did not fight for a simple piece of cloth, but for the very essence of our humanity: freedom. They rose so that every Haitian could live standing tall, speak without fear, and build their own future through education, health, and work.
But let us look clearly at our journey since 1804.
Too often, our political and economic elites have betrayed the dream of our founders. The nineteenth century was torn apart by coups d’état and violence.
The American occupation from 1915 to 1934 stifled our sovereignty. The institutions we attempted to build were eaten away by corruption.
In 1957, we entered our darkest years. The regimes of Duvalier father and son established a reign of terror that shattered our social cohesion and weakened our institutions. Fear became our daily reality.
After 1986, we hoped. But instead of stability, we experienced a succession of fragile governments, fraudulent elections, and broken promises. Corruption persisted. Authoritarianism resurfaced under new faces. And our people continued to suffer.
But I tell you today: THIS IS NOT OUR DESTINY.
Our history of division, violence, and despair is not a fatality written into our genes. It is the result of leadership failures, not the failure of the Haitian people. We are a people of giants, heirs of Toussaint, Dessalines, and Christophe.
It is time to write a new chapter. A chapter of responsibility, transparency, and true unity. The strength of Haiti lies first and foremost in the resilience of its people.
Today, let us channel this extraordinary strength to build a future founded on justice, hope, and authentic democracy.
On this January 1, 2026, let us proclaim together: THE SHADOW ENDS HERE.
Let us look together toward the horizon.
2026 will be the year of courage over complacency.
The year of action over apathy.
The year of unity over destructive divisions.
Our ancestors bequeathed to us a legacy of dignity and defiance. Let us honor it not with empty words, but with concrete actions and unshakable solidarity.
2026 must mark a historic turning point:
The year in which our political elites, as an unbreakable and lasting rule, will adopt a development model based on free enterprise and social justice, once the security climate is restored, with the goal of lifting our people out of misery.
The year in which our political elites will propose a new governance—transparent and effective.
The year in which our economic elites will create a development model that will lift our people out of poverty.
The year in which we seal a new social contract guaranteeing security, economic prosperity, education for all, social mobility, and political stability.
The year in which democracy will finally triumph in Haiti.
To our international friends: for far too long, you have observed, criticized, and made promises. You vote resolutions at the United Nations, send aid and troops—yet Haiti remains on its knees.
2026 must be the year when your assistance truly accompanies us toward genuine democracy. In this new geopolitical era, walk with us toward real democracy. Help us stabilize our institutions. Stop encouraging political chaos that you would never tolerate in your own countries. It is time to walk with us, not dictate our path.
The time for change is NOW.
The change we call for cannot be limited to surface adjustments or cosmetic reforms. It requires a true transformation—deep and lasting—based on a fundamental renewal of our society and our institutions.
By uniting our forces, we commit ourselves to uprooting corruption at its source. Only through collective and determined action can we eradicate this scourge and open the path to the revitalization of our nation, so that it may regain its dignity, its strength, and its unity.
My role as your servant is not to be a solitary messiah on a mountain. I will be a unifier in the valley, a conductor harmonizing the immense talents of our people. I will not build a government FOR you, but WITH you.
May the drums of our independence resound like the heartbeat of a reborn nation.
Let us rise—not as victims of history, but as the architects of our rebirth.
The spirit of 1804 calls to us once again. It does not ask us to mourn the past, but to walk toward the future with the same indomitable courage, the same sacred unity, and the same absolute faith in our collective power.
Let us answer this call! Let us build the Haiti of our dreams:
A safe Haiti, where every citizen can sleep in peace.
A prosperous Haiti, where work is rewarded and entrepreneurship encouraged.
A just Haiti, where the law protects the weak against the strong.
A Haiti that is, at last, for all Haitians.
LONG LIVE A UNITED HAITI
LONG LIVE A FREE HAITI
HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY
Thank you very much. May God bless Haiti.
