RELIGION: A MORNING DEVOTION

March  31 2026                                                       YEAR 7:DAY 022

God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.                                                                                                        Galatians. 6:14

CPWI              Follow  On

1 Down in the valley with my Saviour I would go,

Where the flowers are blooming and the sweet waters flow;

Everywhere he leads me I would follow, follow on,

Walking in his footsteps till the crown be won.

Refrain:

Follow, follow, I will follow Jesus,

Anywhere, everywhere, I will follow on;

Follow, follow, I will follow Jesus,

Everywhere he leads me I will follow on.

2 Down in the valley with my Saviour I would go,

Where the storms are sweeping and the dark waters flow;

With his hand to lead me I will never, never fear;

Dangers cannot fright me if my Lord is near.

3 Down in the valley, or upon the mountain steep,

Close beside my Saviour would my soul ever keep;

He will lead me safely in the path that he has trod,

Up to where they gather on the hills of God.

Blessed be the Lord our God

By whose grace we are yet alive.

Blessed be His Son Jesus Christ

By whose rising we are set free.

Blessed be the Spirit of God

In whom is our hope and our joy.

O God our Father, you have bidden light to shine out of darkness,

and have awakened us again to praise your goodness and to seek

your grace; make us children of the light and of the day, that our

lives being open to your glory, we may shine as lights in the world,

through Jesus Christ our Lord.       Amen.

PSALM                         71:1-14

1 In you, O Lord, have I taken refuge;  let me never be ashamed.

2 In your righteousness, deliver me and set me free;

incline your ear to me and save me.

3 Be my strong rock, a castle to keep me safe;

you are my crag and my stronghold.

4 Deliver me, my God, from the hand of the wicked,

from the clutches of the evildoer and the oppressor.

5 For you are my hope, O Lord God,

my confidence since I was young.

6 I have been sustained by you ever since I was born;

from my mother’s womb you have been my strength;

my praise shall be always of you.

12 O God, be not far from me;  come quickly to help me, O my God.

13 Let those who set themselves against me be put to shame

and be disgraced;  let those who seek to do me evil be covered

with scorn and reproach.

14 But I shall always wait in patience,

and shall praise you more and more.

A READING:                          Isaiah 49:1,  5 – 9

Listen to me, O coastlands; pay attention, you peoples from far away!

The Lord called me before I was born;

while I was in my mother’s womb he named me.

5 And now the Lord says,

who formed me in the womb to be his servant, to bring Jacob back to him,  and that Israel might be gathered to him, for I am honored

in the sight of the Lord, and my God has become my strength—

6 he says,

“It is too light a thing that you should be my servant

to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to restore the survivors of Israel;

I will give you as a light to the nations,

that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth.”

7 Thus says the Lord, the Redeemer of Israel and his Holy One,

to one deeply despised, abhorred by the nations, the slave of rulers,

“Kings shall see and stand up;

princes, and they shall prostrate themselves,  because of the Lord,

who is faithful,  the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen you.”

            The Word of the Lord.               Thanks be to GOD.

[…Grant us so to glory in the cross of Christ, that we may gladly

suffer shame and loss…

Isaiah lays out for us the nature of the Suffering Servant, the Messiah, and the glory he will come to have from God the Father. We see the transformation, the evolution, of his role and purpose, centuries before the birth of Christ. Jesus embraced all of this and lived fulfilled the Script (ures) and secured our redemption and reconciliation. All glory and praise is truly due to him !

…For you are my hope, O Lord God, my confidence since I was young.

 I have been sustained by you ever since I was born;…]

COLLECT                    Tuesday in Holy Week

O God, by the passion of your blessed Son you made an instrument of shameful death to be for us the means of life: Grant us so to glory in the cross of Christ, that we may gladly suffer shame and loss for the sake of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.    Amen.

O God the lover of unity and author of peace, to know you is eternal life; to serve you is perfect freedom. Defend us your servants from all assaults of the enemy, that we may trust in your defence and not fear the power of any adversary; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

                        And now, as our Saviour has taught us, let us pray

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come, your will be done,

on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins

as we forgive those who sin against us.

Lead us not into temptation

but deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power,

and the glory are yours now and for ever.      Amen.

            Sweet Jesus, Sweet Jesus,

            What a wonder You are!

            You are brighter than the morning star.

            You’re fairer, much fairer

            Than the lily that grows by the way side.

            You’re precious, more precious than gold.

The Dismissal:

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with us all now and for evermore.

Amen.                                                                2 Corinthians 13:14

The Lord be with you

And also with you.

Let us bless the Lord.

Thanks be to God.
