A British Virgin Islands fashion designer has been on a “whirlwind” experience delivering her new Activewear line “BLACK,” despite the pandemic.

Kristin Frazer, lead creator at Trefle Inc, BVI, told Caribbean Magazine Plus that putting her new Activewear line has been, “a whirlwind experience and full of emotion! I decided to take a different approach to how I would bring about my next collection considering everything that’s happening in the world and within the BVI. As any other designer of business, there are many challenges that I face daily but perseverance with a strong strategy in Marketing, delivery and my story behind the collection is what I think will carry me well into the year 2022 with this line.

Speaking about what inspired her to launch this new Activewear brand, she said: “When I started my brand over 12 years ago, I sat down and wrote down all the labels and type of clothing and products and services that I wanted to offer and Activewear was within the scope of the plan. A full Activewear line was actually to be officially launched in 2020 but the pandemic caused me to go a slightly different route and so I decided to incorporate just 3 styles of activewear into my new collection called ‘BLACK’. Activewear is just one of my labels under the Trèfle Inc. umbrella and is also one of the mini collections under the new line ‘BLACK’.”

She also said: “We always plan our collections and any other projects that we do between 8-12 months in advance so that we can adjust along the way if need be. This pandemic has unfortunately caused us to adjust in more ways than one.

“We also have an ambassador since 2020 and she’ll be with us until early next year to roll out the collection with us. Her name is Alyssa Harrigan and her stage name is Alyssah. She is a singer from the British Virgin Islands but currently resides in London and she’s one of the faces of the collection for both the Activewear line and the Resortwear line. We also have a few influencers that will be working with us as well to promote the collection.

“Collaboration is another leg for us as we continue to partner with other brands. In this case, part of our Leather Accessory mini line is with our friends in Ethiopia called Kabana and we’re excited about these one of a kind pieces. There are several elements to this “BLACK” collection and that’s the most beautiful part….many moving pieces with an intended global reach.”

The new BLACK Activewear line has three styles, Kristin said. She added: “Two of the three styles are currently available now while the third has an estimated delivery of around the end of November. The entire ‘BLACK’ line has mini collections within it. Following the Activewear collection, we will launch our accessories line, home furnishings line and resortwear line. It’s an exciting time for us and we look forward to bringing out each line as the months go on.”

Partnering with larger sportswear brands would be a dream come true for Kristin because she is putting everything together on her own right now, from the women’s line to the men’s line. “The activewear line originally included men, women and gym bags but due to the pandemic, we shifted to focusing solely on the women styles but within the ‘BLACK’ collection, we have a few style options for Men going into 2022 in the form of resortwear and accessories.”

Bringing BLACK to life has not been easy and the line embodies Kristin’s emotions and hard work rolled into her effort. “The “BLACK” collection is an interpretation of my experiences of the 12 years of working in the fashion industry. Strength, Resilience, Disappointments, Setbacks, Success and more are all blended into both my signature print called “The Q” and into each piece that comes out.

“My story is wrapped up in the abundance of the mix of prints that equates to how life has been. The choices we all make in life determines the path of our existence and I’ve intertwined my emotions and experiences to create a feeling of positivity and joy in the British Virgin Islands and I choose to live unapologetically. This is the mood that has been set and this is what I hope to bring across to everyone.”

  1. Congratulations to Ms. Frazer on her Activewear collection – “Black.” Ms. Frazer is a great inspiration in that she continues to see further than the hear and now, and is quite eloquent in expressing what she sees, before it is manifested. All the best is wished to her and her team as she continues to reach higher!!!
