The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) is deeply saddened at the passing of His Excellency Gabriel Serville, President of the Territorial Collectivity of French Guiana, on Wednesday 30 September.
President Serville dedicated many years of his life to public service in national politics and academia. He led efforts for engagements with CARICOM, which were formalised on 7 July 2026 with French Guiana’s accession as the eighth Associate Member of the Community.
CARICOM acknowledges his contribution to efforts to promote dialogue and cooperation in areas critical to regional development.
We extend deepest condolences to the government and people of French Guiana.
