An established Jamaican fashion designer has “one of a kind” pieces that go fast even during the COVID-19 pandemic as nothing can stop her.

Simone Gordon, owner/operator of Tasha & Tianne Fashions, Jamaica, told Caribbean Magazine Plus that fashion is in her family legacy as she is a third generation fashion professional with her mother and grandmother being in the business.

Ms Gordon also said: “My inspiration comes from just being around nature, I would start out from using the colours of the flowers and birds in my little garden.

Simone, a 20 plus year veteran in the fashion business already, said that her primary market outside of Jamaica is both the wider Caribbean and North America, “I have no problem with exporting as the Jamaica post office works very well and if customers need to use express that is also available.”

Ms Gordon also said: “The last fashion show I took part in was style week Jamaica with Saint International, 2019, where I showed three different collections over three days. The biggest show for style week is fashion block where the best local and international designers get to really but on a show in the middle of new Kingston where the road is blocked off. There’s a lot of media coverage from both local n international media, so designer brings their A game.”

The Saint International fashions itself as the premier boutique modelling agency in the Caribbean and, by extension, Jamaica with models from the Bahamas, Trinidad & Tobago, Martinique, and as far down south in Suriname.

There have been no follow up fashion shows since the COVID-19 pandemic erupted, but Ms Gordon noted that she “will be doing her first virtual show on the July 3, 2021.”

She added: “The COVID-19 pandemic did not affect my production, I am always crating so it gave me a lot of time to do things I wanted to do for so long but didn’t have the time to. What it did was cut my sales as most of my sales come from doing events. I showcase my work on my social media pages so customers could know I’m still in the game.”

Ms Gordon’s primary design category is casual wear and you can look at her pieces on her Instagram page at Tashaandtiannefashionsja. “Just to say most of my pieces are one of a kind and goes fast,” she added.
