EDITORIAL: What has Dickon Mitchell done for Grenada?

October 6, 2026

As general elections in Grenada looms, a call to the record of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) led by Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell.

The record is sparse, at the very least. There is no new investment to speak of other than what was already left in place by the former government formed under the New National Party led by Keith Mitchell.

There is no record of reform on the country’s Citizenship by Investment program, albeit much of the previous 2022 general election propaganda was about the need for reform of the CBI.

The government services are virtually the same.

What can the Mitchell government campaign on? There is very little to speak of.

The only thing that should save Mitchell’s government is the fact that the new leader of the NNP is virtually non-existent. Emmalin Pierre, the NNP leader, is a nice enough lady, but she is not pronounced on any national stage at all.

What does Pierre stand for? What is she promising? What is her bonafides and what will she bring to government if she were to win?

At a time like this, you would have already been hearing distinguishing rhetoric from the opposition camp. This is not here. It may be too late for Pierre to make a considerable push in any event. Elections are sealed in the last two months before the election date. They are not necessarily won during that time.

While Prime Minister Mitchell is woefully lacklustre, Pierre is not giving the public enough spark and excitement to believe she is the person to take Grenada to another level.

As the elections heat up, we will be watching. We wish Grenadians all the best.
