EDITORIAL: We are halfway through 2026, just like that!

August 4, 2026

We hope everybody in the diaspora enjoyed their Emancipation Day Holiday. Black people in the Western Hemisphere have come a long way from August 1, 1834 for the English speaking Caribbean and June 19, 1865 for the United States.

This marks a significant milestone for the remainder of the year for the Caribbean as we now swing into the oncoming Autumn and then before you know it we will be singing Christmas carols.

We sincerely hope you are making good on your 2026 so far. We still have some ways to go before the end of the year, but so far the first half was not all bad. Despite the wars in the Ukraine and Iran, the world could be worse off.

We have to watch for hurricanes up until November 30, but the forecasters have predicted a slower than normal hurricane season this year.

Keep your fingers crossed. And then we will be at the end and singing Joy to the World in no time.

Cheers…
