I know it will hard for some of our readers to appreciate the title of this editorial, but it is true. The Trump administration’s assault on drug traffickers in the Caribbean seas was justified. Someone had to stop the illegal flow of narcotics into the US and the Caribbean and save a life that may not know it is susceptible to being addicted to cocaine or fentanyl or methamphetamines.
To have executed 221 suspected drug dealers is much better than having another lost generation of people with no value to the community.
The only consideration we have to this is for the Trump administration to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that they did in fact have narcotics on their vessels. For this, the US government may have to reveal how they know that they were drug trafficking vessels. And maybe they may not want to be in a position to revealing how they have that technology to get that information.
We think there are enough grown adults in the world to be able to appreciate that there are some things in the hands of the US government that would shock us. But, it’s not that anyone can do anything about it or would want to do anything about it.
While these killings are unsightly. They were necessary to a large degree.
