The US government has been sanctioning a country here, putting out a travel warning there, all in the past few days. But truth of the matter is, these sanctions and the overall word of the US has lost its shock value.
For example, the last time they issued a travel advisory against The Bahamas, US based tourism increased in the country. Americans don’t pay much attention to these things, particularly for sanctions in places like the Caribbean that aren’t, for lack of a better term, embroiled in a bloody civil war, then these sanctions are not even seen by the average American traveler. If they want to come, then they will come.
Secondly, for the case of the sanctions against Venezuela, if it has not worked against the Maduro regime in the past when they had something to lose, then it won’t work now when they have lost the only thing of worth to the country in that of the oil industry.
While these advisories and sanctions are duly noted, the people who are intended to heed them just don’t care that much to put any stock into it.
