EDITORIAL: The dengue outbreak seems tame after COVID

April 9, 2024

Central America is sweltering under the pressure of a massive dengue fever outbreak. The largest outbreak they have seen in year and is trending to break last year’s record-breaking year of 4.5 million cases.

People are dropping like flies around Central America. What can we do at this point but try to inform the citizenry to take precautions of mosquitos and the things that breed mosquitos.

The Pan American Health Organisation has a great deal of information and resources on how to protect communities from this disease. We just hope that it is contained, and it doesn’t spread to the wider Caribbean and the rest of South America.

We didn’t forget how the COVID-19 spiraled out of control, it was a lack of vigilance and due diligence at the entry points of the country.

Let us pray for those who have already lost their lives as a result of this current dengue outbreak and pray to protect the rest of us from the ravages of the disease.
