Oftentimes we tend to be on our way and neglect to look at the least of us. The neglect may not be out of a lack of care for other people, but we are just too consumed with life and survival mode.
But, I call on all of us to slow down a bit and ensure that those that need our help, support and intervention do get it.
We need to be mindful that not everyone is as blessed as we are in terms of having all of our faculties and a place to sleep at night. We need to remember that our worst day may be a day someone else is praying for.
As the years go by the IDB said that the amount of people who will need care is going to triple by 2050. If we can’t do a better job with dealing with the load of people that need our help now, then what will happen to the generation after us who will deal with even more people.
Remember the famous poem from pastor Martin Niemöller:
“First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me.”
