EDITORIAL: Someone needs to get rid of Haiti’s oligarchs!

March 5, 2024

Haven’t anyone noticed that anytime a statement of credibility is made about a pathway forward for Haiti from an international group, particularly CARICOM, or from an international task force looking to bring peace to Haiti, the country kicks off into a wave of violence and instability.

That cannot be a coincidence. It happened when the tripartite eminent leaders group was formed and made their first statement, it happened again when Kenya pledged the 1,000 troops and Bahamas and Jamaica joined in and now it happened again after CARICOM released a statement on Haitian elections.

We see this trend too many times not to take note. It seems we need to sanction someone to go in and remove some of the oligarchs who keep the Haitian gangs in the payroll that keep causing havoc in Haiti.

So many innocent lives are being destroyed because of the greed of the few. This is one time the power’s that be needs to roll up their sleeves and look deep into Haiti and remove the bad teeth.

These waves of instability after powerful declarations or intentions are meant to intimidate any outsider from being a solution to Haiti. The oligarchs probably want to single out any popular figure who wishes to run for president, so they can isolate him and have him under their thumb. We cannot let this happen to another leader in Haiti.
