This magazine has been following the struggles in the Panama Canal for the past 2 years now, from the extended droughts to the US/China standoff over control of the area.
We are happy to see that the canal authority is moving forward with expansion measures to ensure a healthier zone. The world now depends on the Panama Canal as it helps to regulate trade between the West and the East.
We hope that peace would prevail over the zone too and there is no war fought over it as the US ramps up its military presence in the Caribbean and Central American region.
As the global economy continues its rebound and resettling after the pandemic, all vital pathways to ensuring smoother trade needs to be kept healthy and open for all of us.
WE need it. So, if they also can find a way to ensure that the canal does not have another prolonged drought like that again, it would be useful. Because the Panamanian authorities have not presented us with a strategic plan on managing prolonged droughts like that in the future.
