EDITORIAL: Just look at what you’ve done?

June 6, 2023

A lead conspirator in the assassination of the late Haitian President, Jovenel Moïse, has been sentenced to life in prison in a Florida court. Finally, the first piece of justice for the Moise family. His wife has been strong through this entire process.

We hope that the conspirators can look at what Haiti is now and see what that assassination has done to the country. Can you really look in your heart and say that the assassination was worth any political cause that ended up on destabilizing Haiti the way it has over the course of the last two years since Moise’s death?

It seems clear now that Moise was the glue holding the Haitian political factions together. I guess the assassins and those who paid for them thought they would have inherited working institutions that they could plug in and play after his death. But, no, the country has collapsed from the political elites that spread to the average Haitian citizen on the street.

You cannot do business in Haiti like this. Even as a criminal, you cannot conduct any criminal enterprise with any certainty as the citizenry has now banded against the criminal gangs that has put Haiti in a chokehold and breaking every single finger wrapped around their throats.

Was the assassination worth it? It cannot possibly be worth it. We hope and pray that every single conspirator is brought to justice. Moise’s family and supporters and average every day Haitians deserve a conclusion that is satisfactory for the deed done against them and how their country has been dashed to pieces as a result of it.
