EDITORIAL: COVID-19 messaging is getting blurry again!

I am getting lost on what to be afraid of these days on the COVID-19 pandemic. By far the preeminent voice in the Western World is Dr Anthony Fauci, the director of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. Ok? But he doesn’t sound so sure on the efficacy of the vaccines and when we would be out of these masks and back to hugging and kissing one another again.

The last I heard from him over the last weekend was that we could be going into 2022 wearing masks, as if the vaccines are not enough!?! Well you could have floored me with a feather. Do you mean to tell me all of this work that people have been doing to get vaccines out is going to be no good anyway?

I think someone either needs to tell Dr Fauci to have some better news or to keep troubling news to himself. We’re tired. We are tired!

Someone other than Fauci needs to come up with a better strategy for the Western Hemisphere because it seems as if he is tired and at his last bit of sensibilities, because it should not be a year and some change into the pandemic and at the roll out of multiple vaccines and yet he is sounding as if we should throw 2021 away too and be watchful for 2022 to boot?

Alas, he is the only voice out here we get to see. We don’t even listen to the World Health Organisation leadership anymore, and we really should.

We simply cannot go into 2021 wasting it like we did with 2020 and still yet in 2022 with half of the world vaccinated and still having to wear masks and social distancing.

We need better news. Better focus. I know we can’t blame Dr Fauci for giving us what he feels is the truth, but his truth may be wrong. We need to hear more truths from other people.
