A MORNING DEVOTION

July 16, 2026                                                 YEAR 7: DAY 128

Let me hear of your loving kindness in the morning, for I put my trust in you. Teach me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul. Ps.143:8

CPWI   483       Father, Hear The Prayer We Offer

1 Father, hear the prayer we offer:

not for ease that prayer shall be,

but for strength that we may ever

live our lives courageously.

2 Not for ever in green pastures

do we ask our way to be;

but the steep and rugged pathway

may we tread rejoicingly.

3 Not for ever by still waters

would we idly rest and stay;

but would smite the living fountains

from the rocks along our way.

4 Be our strength in hours of weakness,

in our wanderings be our guide;

through endeavour, failure, danger,

Father, be thou at our side.

Blessed be the Lord our God

By whose grace we are yet alive.

Blessed be His Son Jesus Christ

By whose rising we are set free.

Blessed be the Spirit of God

In whom is our hope and our joy.

O God, the King eternal, whose light divides the day from the night and turns the shadow of death into the morning: Drive far from us all wrong desires, incline our hearts to keep your law, and guide our feet into the way of peace; that, having done your will with cheerfulness during the day, we may, when night comes, rejoice to give you thanks; through Jesus Christ our Lord.          Amen.

Psalm                           91:9 – 16

1 Incline your ear, O Lord, and answer me,

for I am poor and needy.

2 Preserve my life, for I am devoted to you;

save your servant who trusts in you.

You are my God; 3 be gracious to me, O Lord,

for to you do I cry all day long.

4 Gladden the soul of your servant,

for to you, O Lord, I lift up my soul.

5 For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving,

abounding in steadfast love to all who call on you.

6 Give ear, O Lord, to my prayer;

listen to my cry of supplication.

7 In the day of my trouble I call on you,

for you will answer me.

A READING:                          Matthew  6:5-15

5 Jesus said “…And whenever you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, so that they may be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. 6 But whenever you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

7 “When you are praying, do not heap up empty phrases as the gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.         9 “Pray, then, in this way:

Our Father in heaven,

may your name be revered as holy.

10     May your kingdom come.

May your will be done

on earth as it is in heaven.

11     Give us today our daily bread.

12     And forgive us our debts,

as we also have forgiven our debtors.

13     And do not bring us to the time of trial,

but rescue us from the evil one.

14 “For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, 15 but if you do not forgive others, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

            The Word of the Lord.               Thanks be to GOD.

[…Mercifully receive the prayers of your people who call upon you, and grant that they may know and understand what things they ought to do…

Jesus offers a study in prayer with comparison and contrast,; in length and content; in kingdom expectation and ordinary desires. We can still learn more if we allow our Lord’s words to whisper wisdom to us.

…Gladden the soul of your servant for to you, O Lord, I lift up

my soul.  For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving,..]

                                    THE PRAYERS:

The Lord be with you

And also with you.

V. Show us your mercy, O Lord;

R. And grant us your salvation.

V. Clothe your ministers with righteousness;

R. Let your people sing with joy.

V. Give peace, O Lord, in all the world;

R. For only in you can we live in safety.

V. Lord, keep this nation under your care;

R. And guide us in the way of justice and truth.

V. Let your way be known upon earth;

R. Your saving health among all nations.

V. Let not the needy, O Lord, be forgotten;

R. Nor the hope of the poor be taken away.

V. Create in us clean hearts, O God;

R. And sustain us with your Holy Spirit.

COLLECT                                Proper 10

O Lord, mercifully receive the prayers of your people who call upon you, and grant that they may know and understand what things they ought to do, and also may have grace and power faithfully to accomplish them; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.        Amen.

O God of peace, you have taught us that in returning and rest we shall be saved, in quietness and confidence shall be our strength: By the might of your Spirit lift us, we pray, to your presence, where we may be still and know that you are God; through Jesus Christ our Lord.        Amen.

Direct us, O Lord, in all our doings with your most gracious favor, and further us with your continual help; that in all our works begun, continued, and ended in you, we may glorify your holy Name, and finally, by your mercy, obtain everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.                 Amen.

            Your grace and mercy, brought us through

            We’re living this moment because of you

            We want to thank you, and praise you too

            Your grace and mercy, brought us through.

The Dismissal:

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with us all now and for evermore.

Amen.                                                             2 Corinthians 13:14

The Lord be with you

And also with you.

Let us bless the Lord.

Thanks be to God.
