A MORNING DEVOTION

July 02, 2026                                              YEAR 7: DAY 114

‘See, I am laying in Zion a foundation stone, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation: One who trusts will not panic.’ Isa. 28:16

CPWI:  279                   Let Every Christian Pray

1 Let every Christian pray,

this day and every day,

come, Holy Spirit, come!

Was not the church we love

commissioned from above?

Come, Holy Spirit, come!

2 The Spirit brought to birth

the Church of Christ on earth

to seek and save the lost:

God never has withdrawn,

since that tremendous dawn,

the gifts at Pentecost.

3 Age after age, he strove

to teach her how to love

come, Holy Spirit, come!

Age after age, anew

she proved the gospel true

come, Holy Spirit, come!

4 The Holy Spirit’s power

can fit us for this hour:

come, Holy Spirit, come!

Instruct, inspire, unite

and make us see the light:

come, Holy Spirit, come!

Blessed be the Lord our God

By whose grace we are yet alive.

Blessed be His Son Jesus Christ

By whose rising we are set free.

Blessed be the Spirit of God

In whom is our hope and our joy.

Father, we come together in the Name of your Son Jesus Christ, our Redeemer, to offer you our worship, praise and thanksgiving. To you belong all power and glory. You are the source of all goodness. Let our worship bear witness to your peace and saving power. Through your Spirit may we ever rejoice in the abiding presence of our risen and ascended Lord.              Amen.

PSALM 133

1 How very good and pleasant it is

when kindred live together in unity!

2 It is like the precious oil on the head, running down

upon the beard, on the beard of Aaron, running down

over the collar of his robes.

3 It is like the dew of Hermon, which falls on the mountains of Zion.

For there the Lord ordained his blessing, life forevermore.

READING:                      1 Corinthians 12:12-14,  27-31a

12 For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. 13 For in the one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and we were all made to drink of one Spirit…

14 Indeed, the body does not consist of one member but of many.

27 Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it. 28 And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then deeds of power, then gifts of healing, forms of assistance, forms of leadership, various kinds of tongues. 29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work powerful deeds? 30 Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret? 31 But strive for the greater gifts.

            The Word of the Lord.               Thanks be to GOD.

[…Grant us so to be joined together in unity of spirit by their teaching, that we may be made a holy temple acceptable to you…

The edifice of worship and service built by the apostles and prophets, remains a living temple of God and the habitat of the Holy Spirit given to the Church. So much effort, so much instruction, so much selfless example of loving service has been given, that we have no excuse available for disunity and division in the  Church. We do well to hear afresh the call to unity and empowerment though godly alliance. Nature shows us that small atoms, aligned together, make powerful magnets that do amazing work!

…First apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then deeds of power, then gifts of healing, forms of assistance, forms of leadership, various kinds of tongues….]

  THE PRAYERS:

The Lord be with you

And also with you.

            As our Saviour has taught us, let us pray

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come,

your will be done, on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins

as we forgive those who sin against us.

Lead us not into temptation

but deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power,

and the glory are yours now and for ever.            Amen.

V. Show us your mercy, O Lord;

R. And grant us your salvation.

V. Clothe your ministers with righteousness;

R. Let your people sing with joy.

V. Give peace, O Lord, in all the world;

R. For only in you can we live in safety.

V. Lord, keep this nation under your care;

R. And guide us in the way of justice and truth.

V. Let your way be known upon earth;

R. Your saving health among all nations.

V. Let not the needy, O Lord, be forgotten;

R. Nor the hope of the poor be taken away.

V. Create in us clean hearts, O God;

R. And sustain us with your Holy Spirit.

            COLLECT                                            Proper   8

Almighty God, you have built your Church upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone: Grant us so to be joined together in unity of spirit by their teaching, that we may be made a holy temple acceptable to you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.     Amen.

The Short Thanksgiving

Almighty God , our heavenly Father; we thank you for your Son Jesus Christ; for the truth of his word and the example of his life; for his steadfast obedience, by which he overcame temptation; for his dying, through which he overcame death; for his rising to life again, in which we are raised to the life of your kingdom. Grant us the gift of your Spirit, that we may know Christ and make him known; and through him, at all times and in all places, may give thanks to you in all things.        Amen.

            We are together again, Just praising the Lord,

            We are together again, in one accord !

            Something good is going to happen,

            something good is in store

            We are together again, Just praising the Lord,

The Dismissal:

Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we can ask or conceive, by the power which is at work among us, to Him be the glory in the Church and in Christ Jesus throughout all ages.   Amen.                                                                                                     Ephesians 3:20-21

The Lord be with you

And also with you.

Let us bless the Lord.

Thanks be to God.
