Statisticians and other stakeholders will gather in Anguilla later in October for a series of technical sessions as part of the 51st Meeting of the Standing Committee of Caribbean Statisticians (SCCS).
Anguilla, a CARICOM Associate Member, will host the series of meetings for the first time. From 26 – 28 October, the 51st Meeting of the SCCS will treat with several regional issues including the implementation of the CARICOM Regional Strategy for the Development of Statistics and work that is underway on economic, demographic and social statistics, and environment and multi-domain statistics. Discussions will also centre on population and housing censuses in CARICOM, building resilience through statistics and the Antigua and Barbuda Agenda for SIDS (ABAS) as well as the work being undertaken with development partners.
Over a two-day period, 29-30 October, the 38th Meeting of the Regional Census Coordinating Committee (RCCC) and the 16th Regional Statistical Research Seminar will be convened. All forums and engagements will be aligned with this year’s theme ‘Harmonising Data, Strengthening Resilience’.
Matters before the RCCC include the strategy and preparations for the 2030 Round of Population and Housing Censuses and the outstanding activities for the 2020 Round.
The 16th Regional Statistical Research Seminar rounds out the week of activities in Anguilla. The seminar brings together statisticians and other stakeholders to present research findings and analysis to a wide audience, facilitating the exchange of knowledge and ideas that contribute to the development of Statistics in the Region.
The decisions of the series of meetings will be advanced by the Regional Statistics Programme (RSP) of the CARICOM Secretariat in collaboration with the subsidiary bodies of the SCCS, including the Advisory Group on Statistics, the RCCC and the Technical Working Groups.
“These efforts will contribute to strengthening national and regional statistical systems and advancing the production and dissemination of harmonised, high-quality statistics to support evidence-based decision-making and sustainable development across the Caribbean Community,” said Halim Brizan, Director, Regional Statistics, CARICOM Secretariat.
