EDITORIAL: COVID on the comeback?

October 20, 2026

The Bahamas has been hit with a wave of COVID-19 infections over the last week due to a church function that hosted 112 people with 20 of them being infected with the virus.

While health officials on the island were able to contain the infected in an effort to halt the further spread of the virus, we should be mindful that we will never fully be rid of the COVID as it is now a part of the pantheon of pathogens that can infect us.

We remember the lockdowns and the curfews and what extent government’s had to go to ensure that people remained safe and secure during the brunt of the pandemic between 2019 and 2021.

We remember how many people we have lost as a result of being infected, and some of those infected were just in the wrong place at the wrong time, not being careful to keep themselves secured and sanitized.

We wish for this to not happen in any country again. The fear and the panic that spread through the world as a result of the onset of the pandemic was something surreal and supernatural.

We pray for those infected that they make a full recovery and for the health officials to put forward their very best efforts in controlling the spread of the virus.
