Nomination Day in Grenada saw 46 candidates officially nominate to contest the 15 seats in the upcoming general election scheduled for November 5.
Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell and his governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) seek a second consecutive term in office.
The NDC and the main opposition New National Party (NNP) were expected to submit a full slate of candidates for all fifteen constituencies on the island.
There are reports that the newly formed Democratic People’s Movement (DPM) of Peter David was only contesting nine seats in the election.
The election is expected to see some close battles in several constituencies.

The most looked forward contest is in the rural St Andrew South-east seat in which the incumbent Emmalin Pierre, the NNP Political Leader is facing a stiff challenge from Education Minister David Andrew of the Congress party.
Pierre has been telling Executive members that she is “safe” but the Andrew Camp believes that they have secured enough votes to topple the female NNP Boss.
Pierre defeated Andrew by just over 200 votes in the 2022 general election but the senior government minister is said to be making significant inroads through several projects undertaken in Telescope, the biggest Polling Division in the constituency.
Mr. Mitchell has pledged to regularly interact with constituents to assess progress against the promises made, and said completed commitments would be removed from the list and new ones added, allowing him to measure progress and be held accountable.
Among his priorities, he identified improved healthcare, sporting facilities, infrastructure, and transportation.
The prime minister urged Grenadians to participate in the November 5 election.
The NDC won nine of the 15 seats in the House of Representatives in the June 2022 general election, while the New National Party (NNP), which had dominated Grenadian politics for decades, secured six.
In 2024, former Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell, retired from the leadership of the NNP and was succeeded by Pierre.
She will be the first woman to lead the NNP into a parliamentary general election.
