Every now and then the US displays a show of force and power that makes other countries remember who is the world’s Super Power and the Caribbean boat strikes- while very tragic- was one of those displays of force.
It was not for the fact that there were strikes, but there were strikes and nobody could do anything about it. The Trump administration said it wanted to put a stop to the drug trafficking emanating from Venezuela and South America and his administration acted resolutely.
This was a very painful thing to experience as the Caribbean lost sovereignty, or what it perceived to be sovereignty, and was at the mercy of the US military.
The thing is, the drug trafficking stunk to high heaven. The region is under siege from drug cartels and someone had to do something about it. The bloodshed on the streets is directly correlated to the drug trafficking as gangs fight for supply and turf.
While the boat strikes is just a blunt measure to curb the narcotics trafficking and absolutely more needs to be done in terms of interventions in major narcotics producing and trafficking countries, we had to deal with the military strikes, imposition of the US into Caribbean waters and the deaths that resulted from the military strikes.
