1 O God of Bethel, by whose hand
thy people still are fed,
who through this weary pilgrimage
hast all our fathers led;
2 Our vows, our prayers, we now present
before thy throne of grace;
God of our fathers, be the God
of their succeeding race.
3 Through each perplexing path of life
our wandering footsteps guide;
give us each day our daily bread,
and raiment fit provide.
4 O spread thy covering wings around
till all our wanderings cease,
and at our Father’s loved abode

Father, we come together in the Name of your Son Jesus Christ, our Redeemer, to offer you our worship, praise and thanksgiving. To you belong all power and glory. You are the source of all goodness. Let our worship bear witness to your peace and saving power. Through your Spirit may we ever rejoice in the abiding presence of our risen and ascended Lord. Amen.

as I lift up my hands towards your most holy sanctuary.

7 The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts;
so I am helped, and my heart exults,
and with my song I give thanks to him.
8 The Lord is the strength of his people;

A READING: Luke 17:11 – 19
23 From Rehoboth Isaac went up to Beer-sheba. 24 And that very night the Lord appeared to him and said, ‘I am the God of your father Abraham; do not be afraid, for I am with you and will bless you and make your offspring numerous for my servant Abraham’s sake.’ 25 So he built an altar there, called on the name of the Lord, and pitched his tent there. And there Isaac’s servants dug a well.
26 Then Abimelech went to him from Gerar, with Ahuzzath his adviser and Phicol the commander of his army. 27 Isaac said to them, ‘Why have you come to me, seeing that you hate me and have sent me away from you?’ 28 They said, ‘We see plainly that the Lord has been with you; so we say, let there be an oath between you and us, and let us make a covenant with you.

There are over sixty references to ‘Do not be afraid’ in the scriptures. We will examine some of them in the week ahead to see why we might trust the Lord with our issues, even today! The Lord appears to the migrant Isaac and tells him Do not be afraid. He has been shielding and guiding Isaac and Rebekah. He references the promise to Abraham that would be fulfilled through them, and then continues to smooth out the political wilderness for Isaac. Our God is still able. He can do it again!

THE PRAYERS:
The Lord be with you
And also with you.
As our Saviour has taught us, let us pray.
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours now and for ever. Amen.

R. And teach our leaders wisdom
V. Endow your church with faithfulness
