A MORNING DEVOTION

JUN 30,  2026                                                        YEAR 7: DAY 112

‘See, I am laying in Zion a foundation stone, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation: One who trusts will not panic.’ Isa. 28:16

CPWI  729           Christ Is Our Corner-Stone

1 Christ is our corner-stone,

on him alone we build;

with his true saints alone

the courts of heaven are filled:

on his great love our hopes we place

of present grace and joys above.

2 O then with hymns of praise

these hallowed courts shall ring;

our voices we will raise

the Three in One to sing;

and thus proclaim in joyful song,

both loud and long, that glorious name.

3 Here, gracious God, do thou

for evermore draw nigh;

accept each faithful vow,

and mark each suppliant sigh;

in copious shower on all who pray

each holy day thy blessings pour.

4 Here may we gain from heaven

the grace which we implore;

and may that grace, once given,

be with us evermore,

until that day when all the blest

to endless rest are called away.

Blessed be the Lord our God

By whose grace we are yet alive.

Blessed be His Son Jesus Christ

By whose rising we are set free.

Blessed be the Spirit of God

In whom is our hope and our joy.

Lord God, almighty and everlasting Father, you have brought us in safety to this brand new day: We lift our hearts in praise and thanks to you. Preserve us O Lord with your mighty power, that we may not fall into sin, nor be overcome by adversity; and in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose; through Jesus Christ our Lord.      Amen.

                          Psalm                         118:15 – 23

15 There are glad songs of victory in the tents of the righteous:

“The right hand of the Lord does valiantly;

16 the right hand of the Lord is exalted;

the right hand of the Lord does valiantly.”

17 I shall not die, but I shall live and recount the deeds of the Lord.

18 The Lord has punished me severely,

but he did not give me over to death.

19 Open to me the gates of righteousness,

that I may enter through them and give thanks to the Lord.

20 This is the gate of the Lord;

the righteous shall enter through it.

21 I thank you that you have answered me

and have become my salvation.

22 The stone that the builders rejected

has become the chief cornerstone.

23 This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.

A READING:                          Ephesians 2:13 – 22

13 … In Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. 14 For he is our peace; in his flesh he has made both into one and has broken down the dividing wall, that is, the hostility between us, 15 abolishing the law with its commandments and ordinances, that he might create in himself one new humanity in place of the two, thus making peace, 16 and might reconcile both to God in one body through the cross, thus putting to death that hostility through it.

17 So he came and proclaimed peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near, 18 for through him both of us have access in one Spirit to the Father. 19 So then, you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and also members of the household of God, 20 built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the cornerstone; 21 in him the whole structure is joined together and grows into a holy temple in the Lord, 22 in whom you also are built together spiritually into a dwelling place for God.

            The Word of the Lord.         Thanks be to GOD.

[…Almighty God, you have built your Church upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone:..

St Paul’s vision of  the new Covenant initiated by Christ’s death and resurrection  is so vast and comprehensive, that we know that it is more than the product of his considerable intellect. It is by divine revelation. He was in the territory of  ‘…Flesh and blood did not reveal that to you..!’Converted on the Damascus Road, called to be an evangelist and apostle, Paul came to know the Trinity of Persons and to see heaven and God’s intentions for the  world.

The church remains blessed by his vision and  legacy!

… In Christ the whole structure is joined together and grows into a holy temple in the Lord, into a dwelling place for God…]

                                    THE PRAYERS:

The Lord be with you

And also with you.

V. Lord reveal your love among us

R. That we may know the joy of your salvation

V. Grant peace within and among all nations;

R. And teach our leaders wisdom

V. Endow your church with faithfulness

R. And her Servants with knowledge and true godliness

V. Defend, O Lord, the rights of the poor and the oppressed

R. That your justice may be known among all people.

V. Lord, renew your Spirit within us

R. That in us and through us your will be done

COLLECT                                Proper VIII

Almighty God, you have built your Church upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone: Grant us so to be joined together in unity of spirit by their teaching, that we may be made a holy temple acceptable to you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.     Amen.

O God the lover of unity and author of peace, to know you is eternal life; to serve you is perfect freedom. Defend us your servants from all assaults of the enemy, that we may trust in your defence and not fear the power of any adversary; through Jesus Christ our Lord.       Amen.

            And now, as our Saviour has taught us, let us pray

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come, your will be done,

on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins

as we forgive those who sin against us.

Lead us not into temptation

but deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power,

and the glory are yours now and for ever.            Amen.

            Lead me, Lord, lead me in thy righteousness;

            make thy way plain before my face.

            For it is thou, Lord, thou, Lord, only,

            that makest me dwell in safety.

The Dismissal:

May the God of hope fill us with all joy and peace in believing through the power of the Holy Spirit.    Amen.              Romans 15: 13

The Lord be with you

And also with you.

Let us bless the Lord.

Thanks be to God.
