All indicators point to an inactive hurricane season. We hope so too.
Without a doubt, from Irma to Dorian to Melissa, Caribbean countries have suffered from the Southern to the Northern Caribbean, countries like Jamaica, Dominica, The Bahamas and Antigua and Barbuda, need a break.
The untold suffering incurred by hurricanes is astonishing. The insurance costs and damages are well within the billions of dollars.
What can stop hurricanes, is still a controversial science. The general consensus is that it is as a result of climate change causing a greater warming of the atmosphere. We agree with that position to a large extent, extent to the point where it is as a result of human action. The science on that has just not been proven that would disprove that this is not simply the planet’s own change in temperature regardless of human activity.
Until the science on climate change is fully understood, it is best to just be mindful of the damage human activity does in any extent to the planet’s atmosphere. It can’t hurt. But this should not be at the disbenefit of industry that may not be at the root cause of climate change. Not only would this harm the economy and the people policymakers are intending to help, but it would move us away from solving the real challenges with climate change.
But for now, we are projected to have a lower activity than usual hurricane season.
