The Caribbean economy is a conundrum. One the one hand, growth has been weak over the 2025. But, on the other hand, Guyana is the only country growing in the region exponentially.
What will the other Caribbean countries that don’t have natural resources like oil and natural gas do?
This is the problem. We are back to the pre-covid problems that have plagued the entire region. We have to find ways to reinvent tourism for some of us, others in the rest of the region have to go back to selling citizenship and passports at fire sales.
The thing is, tourism can only stretch so far. Only so much can a country get out of sun, sand and sea.
The other thing is that citizenship by investment is tainted and countries run the risk of allowing in bad characters and risk the ire of the USA, who want more controls over who these countries with CBI programmes let in.
This is no easy fix. But, this is the challenge.
