A MORNING DEVOTION

April  08 2026

Christ, our Passover, has been sacrificed for us. Therefore, let us keep the feast. Alleluia!                                                               I Corinthians 5:7

CPWI    390      We praise Thee, O God!

We praise Thee, O God!

For the Son of Thy love,

For Jesus Who died,

And is now gone above.

Refrain:

Hallelujah! Thine the glory.

Hallelujah! Amen.

Hallelujah! Thine the glory.

Revive us again.

We praise Thee, O God!

For Thy Spirit of light,

Who hath shown us our Savior,

And scattered our night.

All glory and praise

To the Lamb that was slain,

Who hath borne all our sins,

And hath cleansed every stain.

All glory and praise

To the God of all grace,

Who hast brought us, and sought us,

And guided our ways.

Revive us again;

Fill each heart with Thy love;

May each soul be rekindled

With fire from above.

Blessed be the Lord our God

By whose grace we are yet alive.

Blessed be His Son Jesus Christ

By whose rising we are set free.

Blessed the Spirit of God

In whom is our hope and our joy.

Father, we come together in the Name of your Son Jesus Christ, our Redeemer, to offer you our worship, praise and thanksgiving. To you belong all power and glory. You are the source of all goodness. Let our worship bear witness to your peace and saving power. Through your Spirit may we ever rejoice in the abiding presence of our risen Lord. Amen.

Psalm 105:1-8

1 Give thanks to the Lord and call upon his Name; *

make known his deeds among the peoples.

2 Sing to him, sing praises to him, *

and speak of all his marvelous works.

3 Glory in his holy Name; *

let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.

4 Search for the Lord and his strength; * continually seek his face.

5 Remember the marvels he has done, *

his wonders and the judgments of his mouth,

6 O offspring of Abraham his servant, *

O children of Jacob his chosen.

7 He is the Lord our God; * his judgments prevail in all the world.

8 He has always been mindful of his covenant, *

the promise he made for a thousand generations.

GLORIA

A READING:                          Luke 24:13-35

Cleopas answered Jesus;

“Moreover, some women of our group astounded us. They were at the tomb early this morning, and when they did not find his body there, they came back and told us that they had indeed seen a vision of angels who said that he was alive. Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said; but they did not see him.” Then he said to them, “Oh, how foolish you are, and how slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have declared! Was it not necessary that the Messiah should suffer these things and then enter into his glory?” Then beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them the things about himself in all the scriptures.

As they came near the village to which they were going, he walked ahead as if he were going on. But they urged him strongly, saying, “Stay with us, because it is almost evening and the day is now nearly over.” So he went in to stay with them. When he was at the table with them, he took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized him; and he vanished from their sight. They said to each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he was talking to us on the road, while he was opening the scriptures to us?” That same hour they got up and returned to Jerusalem; and they found the eleven and their companions gathered together. They were saying, “The Lord has risen indeed, and he has appeared to Simon!” Then they told what had happened on the road, and how he had been made known to them in the breaking of the bread.

The Word of the Lord.               Thanks be to GOD.

[…Open the eyes of our faith, that we may behold him in all his redeeming work…

There are three things to consider from this Easter evening story…

One:   All that the church has taught about the prophecies that concern the Messiah, Jesus has applied to himself. We did not imagine them…

Two:   Even as their heart burned within them, Jesus was not positively identified until he broke bread: These disciples had seen him do this before…

Three:   Recognize that Jesus has spent Resurrection Day appearing to his disciples. Two Mary(s) in the morning Simon Peter at lunch, and the others at supper time… He worked hard at making them accept his resurrection.  We should believe and act on it too!

…Glory in his holy Name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice…]

THE PRAYERS:

The Lord be with you

And also with you.

As our Saviour has taught us, let us pray

Our Father in heaven,  hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come, your will be done,

on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins

as we forgive those who sin against us.

Lead us not into temptation

but deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power,

and the glory are yours now and for ever.    Amen.

V. Lord reveal your love among us

R. That we may know the joy of your salvation

V. Grant peace within and among all nations;

R. And teach our leaders wisdom

V. Endow your church with faithfulness

R. And her Servants with knowledge and true godliness

V. Defend, O Lord, the rights of the poor and the oppressed

R. That your justice may be known among all people.

V. Lord, renew your Spirit within us

R. That in us and through us your will be done

COLLECT                        Wednesday in Easter Week

O God, whose blessed Son made himself known to his disciples in the breaking of bread: Open the eyes of our faith, that we may behold him in all his redeeming work; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.       Amen.

Almighty God , our heavenly Father; we thank you for your Son Jesus Christ; for the truth of his word and the example of his life; for his steadfast obedience, by which he overcame temptation; for his dying, through which he overcame death; for his rising to life again, in which we are raised to the life of your kingdom. Grant us the gift of your Spirit, that we may know Christ and make him known; and through him, at all times and in all places, may give thanks to you in all things.        Amen.

In the name of Jesus, In the name of Jesus,

            We have the victory.

In the name of Jesus, In the name of Jesus,

            Demons will have to flee.

Tell me who can stand before us?

In the precious name of Jesus, We have the victory!

The Dismissal:

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellow-ship of the Holy Spirit, be with us all now and for evermore.      Amen.                                                                 2 Corinthians 13:14
