EDITORIAL: Trump can invade Cuba if he wants

March 24, 2026

The cold hard truth is that the Donald Trump administration can invade Cuba if it wants to. That much is clear.

The question is well he? If there was a big enough threat from Cuba to the point of the Cuban missile crisis of 1962 then I think the US may do it, or if there were significant resources to be exploited in Cuba. But, none of these scenarios are in play, so Trump and his administration can sit by and watch the fire rage in Cuba with doing little or next to nothing.

Truth is, the Communist experiment has failed. Only the Cuban leadership has not gotten the memo. Cuba was bound to collapse once its backers in Russia and Venezuela had stopped feeding it.

This is where this is. The only one in Trump’s cabinet who has a vested interest in any regime change in Cuba is Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Rubio is of Cuban descent and he would want to see the reappropriation of his family’s property that the Castro regime had nationalized when Fidel Castro came to power.

So, with Rubio, there is a score to settle. But there is truly no true interest in invading Cuba. Let it burn, Trump is probably saying to itself and allow non-invasive measures take its course to usher in regime change.
