EDITORIAL: Daylight Savings time this Sunday

March 6, 2026

Daylight Savings time for 2026 starts on March 8. People often ask why do we have Daylight Savings time and a lot of people are confused as to why we have it. But, it makes a lot of sense to keep it. Here’s why.

DST was implemented to shift an hour of daylight from the early morning to the evening, theoretically reducing energy consumption and providing more, longer, and safer evening hours for leisure and commerce. Originally adopted during World War I to conserve fuel, it is now mainly used to maximize daylight during warmer months.

Who would not want more energy cost-savings? There is nothing wrong with using God’s beautiful light by day. That is DST in a nutshell. And it has proven to be very useful.

So, please, this Sunday, turn your clocks forward by one hour. Remember, Spring Forward.
