We are left to wonder now that the ousted President of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro has been captured by the US, what will be of Venezuela now?
Will there be a power vacuum for a few years? Is the vice president, Delcy Rodriguez, capable of holding the country together in lieu of a general election?
Will Maria Machado, the opposition leader, step into the gap and begin to agitate for full regime change now?
Truth is, we are not sure what will happen. We would like to think the US would be minded to monitor and manage the situation in Venezuela now, but the truth is, the Trump administration is not obligated to do that.
What we have now is a state where anything can happen in Venezuela. The entire government can collapse and a military junta can come into power. The opposition can raise a full fledged militia and go to war against the remaining Maduro loyalists.
Just because Maduro is in US custody, does not mean that the problems of Venezuela is over.
We need to keep vigilant.
