EDITORIAL: Will the Caribbean be a war front?

September 30, 2025

There is an awful lot of talk about the Caribbean becoming a hot-war front, brought to us by the US being baited to putting belt-to-ass on Maduro and Venezuela. The Trump administration has been bombing suspected drug boats coming from Venezuela. The Venezuelan government said they are fishing vessels.

In addition to the attacks, the US sent a small armada to the Caribbean Sea to deal with the drug trafficking. In response, Venezuela has upped the ante and mobilized its militia to meet the anticipated armed attack from the US.

Now, we all know the US will not attack Venezuela unless something egregious happens. These boat bombings are aggressions, but it will not develop into a full scale war against Venezuela.

What is happening is Trump is putting Maduro in his place and emasculating him in front of the rest of the world and at the same time daring China and Russia to assist Maduro, which they won’t.

But at the time all of this is happening, the Caribbean is pulling at one another, picking sides in the skirmishes between Venezuela and the US. The smart money is to stick out of it and let the US sort it out with Venezuela. The dumb money is choosing Venezuela in any way, shape or form. Reason why? Maduro sort of asked for all of this and someone is taking him to task.

As for a hot war in the Caribbean and will it happen? We don’t think so. Only if China decides to send troops to assist Maduro. Other than that this is just a bit of a slapping of the face from Trump to Maduro.
