First of all, Happy New Year to our readers. We are starting off the year in the region with fireworks.
It’s not that we called it here at Caribbean Magazine Plus months ago, but the fact that how the Trump administration extracted the now deposed leader of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro. Everyone, including us at CMP, were expecting a hot-war or some sort of invasion where the US put troops on the ground like how they did in Grenada, Panama or Haiti in those previous US military interventions.
But, no. It was a surgical extraction that was so clean that there were few casualties. It was simply US military brilliance that was on display when the Delta Force swept into Venezuela, immobilized their anti-aircraft defence, neutralized any air support the Venezuelan army had and went on, kidnapped Maduro and got out, all in under 12 hours. How amazing it that?
We should not be crying over the deposition of Nicolas Maduro. He was a dreadful failure who would not shut up and stop being belligerent to his neighbours and to the US government.
Maduro got what he looked for. Good riddance. Now we hope for a sensible leadership change in Venezuela.
