We need a re-up on our salaries in the region. This is not just for Trinidad or Barbados, or even for the Caribbean or the wider Latin America, but people everywhere need a raise.
The middle class are working longer for less money and benefits, while the upper class work just as long but get much more of the pie than the rest of us. While that may seem unfair, the reality is the wealthy have positioned themselves to earn the benefits they have.
The middle class needs to collaborate and put themselves in another bracket to usher in a new generation of wealth for the rest of us.
How this can be done is beyond this author. All I know is that it must be done, or else we will teeter on the brink of global protests against the system worse than what we have seen in recent history or in generations before.
You cannot arm the “poor people,” with the modern day benefits of communication and not expect their eyes to widen to see the opportunities and lifestyle of the “rich people,” and not expect them to become upset, envious and ready to get up in arms at the system that has disadvantaged them.
We need a revaluation of earnings in the Caribbean and not just the raise of the minimum wage, but we need a better economic model that disperses the wealth and wages to everyone a bit better than what we have.
We can figure out something. The human mind is capable of doing great things and imagining the most creative things.
