Yes. We said it. US president Donald Trump and Colombian president Gustavo Petro should step into the ring and box.
The war of words, while amusing, will not satiate the baying crowd who have been whipped up into a frenzy with all of the discourteous words accompanied with the strikes against suspected drug trafficking vessels.
I’d take Petro, just because he is younger. But Trump is New York tough. He took a bullet to the head and threw up the black power fist. That has to score on the pre-fight analysis.
But, in all seriousness, we hope this side-quest president Trump found himself on with regard to putting Petro in his placed comes to an end. Because, Nicolas Maduro is still there. He still needs to be dealt with.
Without question, Maduro and Haiti are this region’s key priorities. The drug trafficking is the US’s problem. While the region is a part of that drug problem, it does not affect us like it does Americans. We need to help Haiti, save Venezuela and ensure that our economies stay afloat.
Forget Gaza and the Ukraine, they can sort their own problems out. We need to continue to focus. So, as soon as Trump and Petro duke it out, hopefully on free-TV, we can get back to the serious issues in the region.
