EDITORIAL: The PNP should put Lisa Hanna forward to lead

September 5, 2025

Mark Golding’s People’s National Party (PNP) came up short to incumbent Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness yet for a third time.

Golding tried his best, but was not appealing enough for voters to be swayed from Holness’s steady leadership.

We could have told PNP leadership that Golding had a hard hill to climb, notwithstanding his merits. Truth is, he was not exciting enough to even consider. His greatest merit was that he was not as dry as his PNP predecessor, Peter Philips, who could not excite a toddler in a candy store.

What the PNP should do now is pick a new leader. Not that there is anything personal with Golding, but he lost just like Philips before him and Simpson-Miller before him.

It’s time to put that Lisa Hanna to the forefront to at least lead the PNP to the next general election. She is someone that has a fresher looking face. Not so spoiled by the political sludge and slime. Plus, she is very attractive and also still carries a bit of her Jamaican charm.

What Ms Hanna needs is good people around her to ensure she keeps her positive image in front of the Jamaican people. That’s all she needs.

The PNP may not want to keep her as Prime Minister and I’m not sure why they wouldn’t want to, but she can definitely lead the party to better results.

Take this note well: Holness will get stale after a while. He is now on his third term. People will get exhausted and quite naturally, want something new, fresh and exciting.
