EDITORIAL: Kamla is so divisive and becoming unhinged

October 24, 2025

It is disappointing to see the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, go off of the rails the way she has over the past several weeks.

The things she is spouting off, and has been spouting off years prior, is just unsightly and unfortunately, very unhelpful.

As Sir Ronald Sanders pointed out in his commentary, she is inviting her colleagues from around the region to take in some of the Venezuelans that have been displaced by the Nicolas Maduro regime. Why would you say this, in one of the most tense times in the region for Venezuela, the United States and the Caribbean as a whole.

The US has been bombing suspected drug boats coming from Venezuela and as a result the Maduro regime has mobilized militia men in Venezuela in order to combat what he suspects to be an imminent invasion from the Trump administration. Now the Trump administration has mobilized the CIA to take action in Venezuela, which is essentially a declaration of war to have to intervene in another country’s internal security and politics. But, because it is being done so blatantly, we have not had a chance to fully respond with all minds intact and focused on the problems this heated situation has created.

We don’t know if the CIA will just focus on Venezuela, or see assets in Trinidad as collateral in their intent to exterminate Maduro and his henchmen? But, here we have Ms Persad-Bissessar, hyping up war and flaming tensions with rancid, divisive and unhelpful talk.

So, if Trinidadian are hurt in the crossfire, they have no one else to blame but their Prime Minister for flaming an already heated situation.

Ms Persad-Bissessar should just tone it down a little, because a Mia Mottley she is not. She is not even a Eugenia Charles of Porta Simpson-Miller. She is just simply embarrassing now.
