A MORNING DEVOTION

February 17, 2026                                                           Year 6:Day 346

For the God who said, “Out of darkness light shall shine,” has caused his light to shine in our hearts, the light which is knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.                                          II Corinthians 4:6

CPWI   358       Ye Servants Of God, Your Master Proclaim.

1 Ye servants of God, your Master proclaim,

and publish abroad his wonderful name;

the name all-victorious of Jesus extol:

his kingdom is glorious, and rules over all.

2 God ruleth on high, almighty to save;

and still he is nigh, his presence we have;

the great congregation his triumph shall sing,

ascribing salvation to Jesus our King.

3 Salvation to God who sits on the throne!

Let all cry aloud, and honour the Son.

The praises of Jesus the angels proclaim,

fall down on their faces, and worship the Lamb.

4 Then let us adore, and give him his right:

all glory and power, all wisdom and might,

and honour and blessing, with angels above,

and thanks never-ceasing, and infinite love.n

Hear us O Lord.

For your mercy is great.

We will exalt you, O God our Saviour.

And praise your name for ever and ever.

Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit

As it was in the beginning is now;  and shall be forever. Amen.

Lord God, almighty and everlasting Father, you have brought us in safety to this new day: We give you heartfelt thanks and praise.

Preserve us O Lord with your mighty power, that we may not fall into sin, nor be overcome by adversity; and in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose; through Jesus Christ our Lord.   Amen

Psalm  82

1 God has taken his place in the divine council;

in the midst of the gods he holds judgment:

2 “How long will you judge unjustly and show partiality

to the wicked?

3 Give justice to the weak and the orphan;

maintain the right of the lowly and the destitute.

4 Rescue the weak and the needy;

deliver them from the hand of the wicked.”

5 They have neither knowledge nor understanding;

they walk around in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken.

6 I say, “You are gods, children of the Most High, all of you;

7 nevertheless, you shall die like mortals and fall like any prince.”

8 Rise up, O God, judge the earth, for all the nations belong to you!

A READING:              2 Corinthians 4

4 Since it is by God’s mercy that we are engaged in this ministry, we do not lose heart. 2 We have renounced the shameful, underhanded ways; we refuse to practice cunning or to falsify God’s word, but by the open statement of the truth we commend ourselves to the conscience of everyone in the sight of God. 3 And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. 4 In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing clearly the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. 5 For we do not proclaim ourselves; we proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord and ourselves as your slaves for Jesus’s sake. 6 For it is the God who said, “Light will shine out of darkness,” who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.   7 But we have this treasure in clay jars, so that it may be made clear that this extraordinary power belongs to God and does not come from us.

The Word of the Lord.               Thanks be to GOD.

[…That we may be strengthened to bear our cross, and be changed into his likeness from glory to glory

The Scriptures tell us, time and again, that we are  more than we imagine, more than we know. The psalmist shares our possibilities; ‘You are gods…!’ God is willing to do so much in us and through us and for us!  St Paul, who has himself seen the Glory of Jesus Christ, knows full well the tranformative power of the Gospel. He knows that if we believe and draw close to our Lord Jesus, we are going to be different. We are going to move though stages from one level to another.  We can become like HIM, as his light fills us and shines through us…

…  I say, “You are gods, children of the Most High, all of you;

nevertheless, you shall die like mortals and fall like any prince….”

                                     THE PRAYERS:

The Lord be with you

And also with you.

                        And now, as our Saviour has taught us, let us pray

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come, your will be done,

on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins

as we forgive those who sin against us.

Lead us not into temptation

but deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power,

and the glory are yours now and for ever.            Amen.

V. Show us your mercy, O Lord;

R. And grant us your salvation.

V. Clothe your ministers with righteousness;

R. Let your people sing with joy.

V. Give peace, O Lord, in all the world;

R. For only in you can we live in safety.

V. Lord, keep this nation under your care;

R. And guide us in the way of justice and truth.

V. Let your way be known upon earth;

R. Your saving health among all nations.

V. Let not the needy, O Lord, be forgotten;

R. Nor the hope of the poor be taken away.

V. Create in us clean hearts, O God;

R. And sustain us with your Holy Spirit.

            COLLECT                    Epiphany  Last

O God, who before the passion of your only-begotten Son revealed his glory upon the holy mountain: Grant to us that we, beholding by faith the light of his countenance, may be strengthened to bear our cross, and be changed into his likeness from glory to glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.   Amen.

Almighty God, our heavenly Father; we thank you for your Son Jesus Christ; for the truth of his word and the example of his life; for his steadfast obedience, by which he overcame temptation; for his dying, through which he overcame death; for his rising to life again, in which we are raised to the life of your kingdom. Grant us the gift of your Spirit, that we may know Christ and make him known; and through him, at all times and in all places, may give thanks to you in all things.        Amen.

            Turn your eyes upon Jesus

            Look full in his wonderful face

            And the things of earth will go strangely dim

            In the light of His glory and grace!

The Dismissal:

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with us all now and for evermore.      Amen.                                                                2 Corinthians 13:14

The Lord be with you

And also with you.

Let us bless the Lord.

Thanks be to God.
