October 13, 2026 Year 6:Day 218
To the Lord our God belong mercy and forgiveness; because we have rebelled against him and have not obeyed the Lord, by following his laws Daniel 9: 9-10
CPWI 384 Praise to the Lord, the Almighty,
1 Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation;
O my soul, praise him, for he is thy health and salvation:
all ye who hear, now to his temple draw near,
joining in glad adoration.
2 Praise to the Lord, who o’er all things so wondrously reigneth,
shieldeth thee gently from harm, or when fainting sustaineth:
hast thou not seen how thy heart’s wishes have been
granted in what he ordaineth?
3 Praise to the Lord, who doth prosper thy work and defend thee;
surely his goodness and mercy shall daily attend thee:
ponder anew what the Almighty can do,
if to the end he befriend thee.
4 Praise to the Lord! O let all that is in me adore him!
All that hath life and breath, come now with praises before him!
Let the Amen sound from his people again:
gladly for aye we adore him!
Blessed be the Lord our God
By whose grace we are yet alive.
Blessed be His Son Jesus Christ
By whose rising we are set free.
Blessed be the Spirit of God
In whom is our hope and our joy.
O God, the King eternal, whose light divides the day from the night and turns the shadow of death into the morning: Drive far from us all wrong desires, incline our hearts to keep your law, and guide our feet into the way of peace; that, having done your will with cheerfulness during the day, we may, when night comes, rejoice to give you thanks; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Psalm 95:1, 6-11
1 O come, let us sing to the Lord;
let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!
6 O come, let us worship and bow down,
let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!
7 For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture,
and the sheep of his hand. O that today you would listen to his voice!
8 Do not harden your hearts, as at Meribah,
as on the day at Massah in the wilderness,
9 when your ancestors tested me,
and put me to the proof, though they had seen my work.
10 For forty years I loathed that generation and said, ‘They are a people whose hearts go astray, and they do not regard my ways.’
11 Therefore in my anger I swore, ‘They shall not enter my rest.’
GLORIA
READING: EXODUS 17:1-7
17 From the wilderness of Sin the whole congregation of the Israelites journeyed by stages, as the Lord commanded. They camped at Rephidim, but there was no water for the people to drink. 2 The people quarrelled with Moses, and said, ‘Give us water to drink.’ Moses said to them, ‘Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test the Lord?’ 3 But the people thirsted there for water; and the people complained against Moses and said, ‘Why did you bring us out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and livestock with thirst?’ 4 So Moses cried out to the Lord, ‘What shall I do with this people? They are almost ready to stone me.’ 5 The Lord said to Moses, ‘Go on ahead of the people, and take some of the elders of Israel with you; take in your hand the staff with which you struck the Nile, and go. 6 I will be standing there in front of you on the rock at Horeb. Strike the rock, and water will come out of it, so that the people may drink.’ Moses did so, in the sight of the elders of Israel. 7 He called the place Massah and Meribah, because the Israelites quarrelled and tested the Lord, saying, ‘Is the Lord among us or not?’
The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to GOD.
[…Lord, we pray that your grace may always precede and follow us...
both reading and psalm relive n event of God’s pre-venient grace, his anticipative power, being distorted out of line by a people’s indiscretion.
The Lord, the God of Israel, instructed Israel to gather at Massah where he would slake their thirst and quiet their grumbling. The thing is this: having your God going before you day after day can be a double edged sword. The intimacy, the nearness, reveals the inner thoughts and puts ordinary humans at risk of divine displeasure… Grace freely given , still has consequence and cost! A sensible response to God;s presence and providence is always GRATITUDE! What could go wrong ? Turns out ; quite a lot ! !
…surely his goodness and mercy shall daily attend thee: ponder anew what the Almighty can do, if to the end he befriend thee.…]
THE PRAYERS:
The Lord be with you
And also with you.
As our Saviour has taught us, let us pray
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours now and for ever. Amen.
V. Lord reveal your love among us
R. That we may know the joy of your salvation
V. Grant peace within and among all nations;
R. And teach our leaders wisdom
V. Endow your church with faithfulness
R. And her Servants with knowledge and true godliness
V. Defend, O Lord, the rights of the poor and the oppressed
R. That you justice may be known among all people.
V. Lord, renew your Spirit within us
R. That In us and through us your will be done
COLLECT PROPER 23
Lord, we pray that your grace may always precede and follow us, that we may continually be given to good works; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
O Lord, our God; we pray you so to guide and govern us by your Holy Spirit, that in all our cares and challenges, we may not forget you. Grant that as we journey, we may find mutual benefit and true fellowship.
As we act sensibly and sensitively one with another, may we experience health and wholeness as you intend; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Daniel’s God sure will deliver.
Daniel’s God surely will deliver.
If you only look to HIM by faith,
Daniel’s God surely will deliver.
THE DISMISSAL
May the God of hope fill us with all joy and peace in believing through the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Romans 15:13
The Lord be with you
And also with you.
Let us bless the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
