A MORNING DEVOTION

May 19, 2026

For Christ has entered, not into a sanctuary made with hands, a copy of the true one, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf.                                                                       Hebrews 9: 24

            CPWI 400         We Have A Gospel To Proclaim !

1   We have a gospel to proclaim

Good news for men in all the earth;

The gospel of a Saviour’s name:

We sing His glory, tell His worth.

2   Tell of His birth at Bethlehem,

Not in a royal house or hall

But in a stable dark and dim:

The Word made flesh, a light for all.

3   Tell of His death at Calvary,

Hated by those He came to save;

In lonely suffering on the cross

For all He loved, His life He gave.

4  Tell of that glorious Easter morn:

Empty the tomb, for He was free.

He broke the power of death and hell

That we might share His victory.

Tell of His reign at God’s right hand,

By all creation glorified;

He sends His Spirit on His Church

To live for Him, the Lamb who died.

Now we rejoice to name Him King:

Jesus is Lord of all the earth.

This gospel message we proclaim:

We sing His glory, tell His worth.

Blessed be the Lord our God

By whose grace we are yet alive.

Blessed be His Son Jesus Christ

By whose rising we are set free.

Blessed be the Spirit of God

In whom is our hope and our joy.

Lord God, almighty and everlasting Father, you have brought us in safety to this new day: We give you heartfelt thanks and praise.

Preserve us O Lord with your mighty power, that we may not fall into sin, nor be overcome by adversity; and in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose; through Jesus Christ our Lord.      Amen

PSALM:      93

1 The Lord is king; he is robed in majesty; the Lord is robed; he is girded with strength. He has established the world; it shall never be moved;

2  your throne is established from of old; you are from everlasting.

3 The floods have lifted up, O Lord, the floods have lifted up

their voice; the floods lift up their roaring.

4 More majestic than the thunders of mighty waters, more

majestic than the waves of the sea, majestic on high is the Lord!

5 Your decrees are very sure; holiness befits your house, O Lord, forever more.                            GLORIA

              A READING:             ACTS  5:27 – 32,  41 – 42

27 When the temple police had brought the disciples in, they had them stand before the council. The high priest questioned them, 28 saying, “We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name, yet here you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and you are determined to bring this man’s blood on us.” 29 But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than any human authority. 30 The God of our ancestors raised up Jesus, whom you had killed by hanging him on a tree. 31 God exalted him at his right hand as Leader and Savior that he might give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. 32 And we are witnesses to these things, and so is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey him.”

41…  As they left the council, they rejoiced that they were considered worthy to suffer dishonor for the sake of the name. 42 And every day in the temple and at home they did not cease to teach and proclaim Jesus as the Messiah.

            The Word of the Lord.  Thanks be to GOD.

[…O God, the King of glory, you have exalted your only Son Jesus Christ with great triumph to your kingdom in heaven…

St Peter speaks for the apostles to the Council in Jerusalem  with the confidence of Pentecost  and multiple manifestations of grace behind him. He proclaims Jesus Christ exalted and empowered. Even as they were flogged and warned to be quiet, they kept on witnessing in the power of the Spirit.  We too have a gospel to proclaim!

…Tell of His reign at God’s right hand, By all creation glorified; He sends His Spirit on His Church To live for Him, the Lamb who died…]

                                                THE PRAYERS:

The Lord be with you

And also with you.

            As our Saviour has taught us, let us pray

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,

your kingdom come,

your will be done, on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins

as we forgive those who sin against us.

Lead us not into temptation

but deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power,

and the glory are yours now and for ever.      Amen.

V. Lord reveal your love among us

R. That we may know the joy of your salvation

V. Grant peace within and among all nations;

R. And teach our leaders wisdom

V. Endow your church with faithfulness

R. And her Servants with knowledge and true godliness

V. Defend, O Lord, the rights of the poor and the oppressed

R. That your justice may be known among all people.

V. Lord, renew your Spirit within us

R. That in us and through us your will be done

COLLECT                                EASTER  VII

O God, the King of glory, you have exalted your only Son Jesus Christ with great triumph to your kingdom in heaven: Do not leave us comfortless, but send us your Holy Spirit to strengthen us, and exalt us to that place where our Savior Christ has gone before; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting.        Amen.

Heavenly Father, in you we live and move and have our being: We humbly pray you so to guide and govern us by your Holy Spirit, that in all the cares and challenges of the day, we may not forget you. Grant that within the boundaries set for us, we may find mutual benefit and true fellowship, and that as we act sensibly and sensitively one with another, we may experience full health and wholeness as you intend; through Jesus Christ our Lord.                       Amen.

            When I think of the goodness of Jesus

            and what He has done for me;

            My soul cries out alleluia !

            Thank God for saving me.

The Dismissal:

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellow-ship of the Holy Spirit, be with us all now and for evermore. Amen.                                                                       2 Corinthians 13:14

The Lord be with you

And also with you.

Let us bless the Lord.

Thanks be to God.
