This is now going on 5 years since Haiti’s former president was assassinated and still the country has not had an election for his replacement. How long can this go on?
Haiti cannot be that backward and broken that its institutions cannot muster up a presidential election. I find it hard to believe that this is the situation.
There is even little discussion about presidential elections in Haiti, but there is report after report on how Haiti’s situation is so dire and how many people are dying on a daily basis.
The CARICOM Eminent Persons group has failed. The transitional council for Haiti has failed. This is an absolute failure of epic proportions that speaks just as loudly as the politicians and managers watching it unfold as it does the people of Haiti.
It is quite pitiful to watch the amount of failure across the board in Haiti. There is really very little one can say about it aside from stating exactly what it is. An epic failure. Meanwhile, the Haitians suffer.
We tend to forget that there are human beings in Haiti. We pray for them.
